About

We only sell what someone we know has made.

Kamayari started in 2016 as a stall selling baskets from one weaving family in Baliuag, Bulacan, north of Manila. Today we buy from 14 workshops across the Philippines, and the rule hasn’t changed.

Our story

It started with one workshop and a borrowed van.

Every piece is woven, carved or fired by hand in one of 14 workshops across Luzon and the Visayas, the northern and central islands of the Philippines. We visit each workshop before we list their work, so ask about any product and we’ll tell you who made it.

The people who make it

Every piece starts in a small workshop. These are the makers we’ve bought from for years, and the reason each piece looks the way it does.

How we buy

01

We visit before we list.

Nothing goes on the site until we’ve seen where it’s made and met the people making it.

02

We pay on collection.

Workshops are paid when we pick up the order, not when it sells. They carry no risk for our stock.

03

We say what it’s made of.

Every product lists its material. If a piece mixes materials, it lists all of them.

The owners

Meet the owners

We opened the shop to keep these crafts in everyday homes.

Mara and Paolo grew up with woven baskets and clay jars in every corner of their grandparents’ house in the Philippine provinces. When they couldn’t find the same pieces in Manila, they started driving out to the workshops themselves.

They still visit every maker, choose each piece and answer most enquiries personally. If you message the shop, it’s usually one of them who replies.

The chair is the first thing guests ask about. The shop told us who wove it and how long it took, and now that story comes up every time.
